About

Ellie Fowks is a multi-media artist based in Kansas City. She has a BA from Northern Arizona University and an AFA from Johnson County Community College. She will begin a graduate program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Fiber and Material Studies in Fall 2026. She primarily works in drawing, metalsmithing, and sculpture.

While at Johnson County Community College, she was awarded two Fine Arts specific scholarships by her professors and displayed her work in the Fine Arts and Design building for the summer show on the campus. She also was selected to display work at Tomahawk Community Center in Overland Park, Kansas. Additionally, one of her pieces was published in the yearly Mind’s Eye art magazine.

She has also exhibited art at Holsum Gallery from October-December 2025 and 3West Gallery from January-February 2026, both in Kansas City, MO.

Ellie started her art journey with drawing and still practices this skill often. She enjoys drawing on wood and uses oil pastels and colored pencil. She also paints with gouache and acrylic on paper.

She makes jewelry too, primarily using sterling silver. She uses the sand-casting method to create pendants and rings and forges wire to create necklace chains.

She is currently exploring the use of natural materials in her sculpture pieces, focusing on mediums that are easily compostable, such as grass, tree branches, fiber and bioplastics. She is very interested in creating art that does not negatively impact the environment.
