About
Ellie Fowks is a multi-media artist based in Kansas City. She has a BA from Northern Arizona University and an AFA from Johnson County Community College. She primarily works in drawing, metalsmithing and sculpture.
While at Johnson County Community College, she was awarded two Fine Arts specific scholarships by her professors and currently has a piece on display in the Fine Arts and Design building on the campus.
Ellie started her art journey with drawing and still practices this skill often. She enjoys drawing on wood and uses oil pastels and colored pencil. She also paints with gouache and acrylic on paper.
She makes jewelry too, primarily using sterling silver. She uses the sand-casting method to create pendants and rings and forges wire to create necklace chains.
She is currently exploring the use of natural materials in her sculpture pieces, focusing on mediums that are easily compostable, such as grass, tree branches, and bioplastics. She is very interested in creating art that does not negatively impact the environment.
